world record axle deadlift

https://instagram.com/p/6yVdK3vooT/

This is a pretty obscure lift that I'm pursuing a world record in, but there's a reason I want this one. Sure I want a world record, who doesn't, I've had an American record, and two state records, so a world would be awesome. But I really want this record because the current holder of the record is an idol of mine. Mike Burke is a competitor on the world's strongest man, and a contractor. He motivated me to not give up training when I was working my ass off. I saw this guy that does the same work I was doing at the time, and competes in the same sport as me who is a contender for the world's strongest man. He made me think why not me. So when I first tried double overhand axle Deadlifts, and saw how close I was to this guy, that I look up to, I was instantly motivated to take it. The saying goes, "train until your idols become your rivals." I'm on track to live it. Hopefully one day this guy that motivated me will say, "shit Bob Moyer is coming I better train harder."

what's the point if you can't laugh?

A little piece of video from my deadlift at the meet yesterday. I quit I had nothing left, but the mc said I still had some time, so I grabbed the bar double overhand which would beat the record by 75lbs. Of course I was joking. I've barely tied the record. The point here I'm wanting to make is don't be scared to laugh even in the middle of a competition. Everyone forgets we started doing this because we enjoy it. If you can't enjoy the pursuit of your dreams then are they really worth it? Even on the world's stage I hope I can still make jokes, and enjoy myself. Especially to the new people. You may zero an event (hell you may zero every event) but remember you signed up for the competition because you wanted to test yourself, and you did. You still did better than everyone that didn't show up (I know super cliche). But seriously finish the event, shrug it off, and focus on the next. Enjoy the pursuit, laugh, and have fun.

Strongman meet write up

Yesterday I competed in my third sequim strongman show, and it was officially two years as a strongman. After finishing second in the 300lb class after some minor injuries, and just facing a stronger competitor I had to remind myself that I can't expect to be the world's strongest man after only two years. This is a sport of longevity. "It's a marathon, not a sprint" blah blah blah. Definitely ready to bring up my overhead press, and get good at yoke. I'm so ready for next year. Finally back on track after all the setbacks. Getting my life in order, and stronger than ever. All, but tearing a muscle in my back on the yoke the meet went great, and according to plan.

Why I have competed so much the past year.

As I approach my third meet at Sequim it got me thinking why I have competed so much in the past year. Previously I only competed 2 or 3 times a year while from Sequim last year to this year I will have competed 6 times. In the past year my life has been a constant struggle, and competition is my constant. My first competition of 2015 at RAB fitness in Kennewick Wa was a terrible meet for me my prep leading into it was absolutely terrible. In order I lost my car, I got in a wreck in a box truck, and got pretty sick. The competition happened while still not completely over the sickness. Most people would pull out after all that, but I had to go. When the rest of my life is shit a 600lb deadlift will always be a 600lb deadlift. I also get to see friends, and forget about my problems for at least a day. Back even further when I did hardcore powerlifting in Newport it was right before I ended up living in my car. I drove all the way there in a snow storm with no where to stay, and no idea if I would be able to get back home. I did take a break after that to get my life back together, but I needed that competition. I needed to know at least one part of my life was still the same. Of course I've also competed so much this year because I don't have a woman nagging me about it.

Return of the Bob: update on life.

I quit posting in this, and my training logs cause life got in the way. I'll get more into all that in a second. First let me catch you up on my competitive life, and training. Since I left I have competed in three powerlifting meets one being a pro show where I totaled 1700, and the other set an all time deadlift pr of 705.5lbs. The third was deadlift only for charity. I've also competed in 4 strongman competitions which is where my heart is at. I've qualified for NAS nationals the past two years in a row. In one week I compete in Sequim, Wa. I've currently been dabbling in grip work, and unofficially tied the world record double overhand axle deadlift of 523lbs. I am thinking about spending my long off season training grip to attempt to take the world record. Since I stopped posting here my life went in the shitter. In October 2013 my fiance left me, and threw me out on my ass, and as a stay at home parent I was literally on my ass. Luckily some friends let me move in if I watched her kid for her. While living there I managed to fix my relationship with my fiance (or so I thought). I left there to move back into my house, but after I moved out she changed her mind, and I was forced to live in my car for a couple months. I found work while I was in my car, and still tried desperately to fix my relationship once again I thought I had succeeded, and we got an apartment together. That apparently wasn't meant to be. But from there I've worked my ass off to rebuild my life, and get back on track competitively. I'm stronger than ever before, and happier, and I'm ready to make a real push to be the best version of me I can be.
